Are you in the 80%? By February 1st, that’s how many people have dropped the goals they laid out for the year.
I can relate.
I stopped writing recently. My weekly cadence of sharing what was happening in leadership, with clients, at Interleap – fell by the wayside during one of the choppiest Januarys most of us can remember.
It felt like a failure. Technically it was.
And then I went back to a concept I wrote about last month around the gap and the gain.
It’s so easy to see the places we didn’t follow through. The trick is not letting it define our path forward.
A note on goals: these are meant to be manifestations of our values – the things we really care about investing in. They have to be something meaningful and they have to belong to you.
When we’ve stopped moving toward a goal we set, we may need to re-evaluate why it was a goal in the first place.
If it passes the test, there’s one thing left to do.
Figure out what it looks like to begin again.
One way I do this is through intentional input. It’s amazing how this informs my mindset, mental space and momentum. I love sharing what’s fueling me in these areas in case it drives some momentum for you, too.
Books & Quotes:
I’ve worked with the same coach for seven years (shout out to you, DTK) and in 2020, he authored the book, Mindset Mondays. I recently picked this up again and remembered why its content and coaching have had a profound impact on my life. It is, in fact, choosing and mastering our mindsets, that has the power to change the way we see the world. Choosing the way we see the world changes the way we experience life.
“We do not see the world as it is, we see the world as we are.” The Talmud
The work I’ve done in my life and business, is often parallel to the work I get to do with clients. We often coach what we need the most. I’ve been led into deep and complex places to consider what impact I most want to make in the world as I invite and challenge others to do the same.
Turning the pages of Mindset Mondays this morning revealed one of my favorite quotes around this sweet topic:
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
Mary Oliver, A Summer Day
It’s the biggest, juiciest, hardest and most fun question ever. And helping clients navigate the journey to find their own answers is one of my greatest privileges.
How will you know? What matters most about your one wild and precious life? You are the only one with the answer. I hope you want to find it.
So here’s to the next start. May we all be invested in something we REALLY care to create more of in 2025.
